New Jersey Cardinals News Release
Needing to win each of their final 6 games and get some help from around the league in order to win the wild card, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) are doing everything they can to make their playoff hopes a reality. The Cards (40-34) won their 5th straight game tonight, a 4-0 decision over the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). New Jersey must now win its regular season finale tomorrow night against Aberdeen (35-39) and have Mahoning Valley, who defeated Batavia, 4-2, tonight, lose its game with Batavia tomorrow in order to make the playoffs.
The Cardinals rode to their season-high 5th straight win on the shoulders of starting pitcher Miguel Aguero (5-5), who threw 8 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits and striking out to earn his 5th victory of the season. Simon Williams, who drove in the winning run in last nights game, had 2 RBI, including one in the 2nd inning that put the Cardinals ahead, 1-0, and Wes Swackhamer chipped in another to spark the offense. Tony Granadillo and Matt Shepherd each recorded two hits and scored a run. Kyle Boehm (2-2) took the loss for the Ironbirds, who dropped their 5th straight to the Cardinals.
Tomorrow night the Cardinals take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds at 7:15 pm at Skylands Park in the final regular season contest of the year. Rally Cow Bobbleheads are scheduled to be given away to the first 1000 fans. For tickets, fans may visit the Cardinals box office or call 973-579-7500.
