
New Jersey dominates Elmira again

Little Falls, NJ â The New Jersey Jackals once again dominated the Elmira Pioneers, 10-3, winning their 11th game out of 12 against the Pioneers in 2004.
Eleven pitches into the ballgame, after recording the first two outs, New Jersey starter Brad Whitworth was pulled from the ballgame due to injury. Evan Neiser would come into the ballgame.
In the bottom of the first, the Jackals sent nine batters to the plate, in an inning that would set the tone for the rest of the game. Darren Ciraco singled scoring two, Craig Conway hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI, and Jay LaFlair roped an RBI single into right field. After one, New Jersey led 4-0.
Elmira countered in the top of the second, while cutting their deficit in half. A triple by Kurt Piantek scored two for the Pioneers.
In the second, a Kevin Grijak two RBI single put the Jackals back ahead by four runs, 6-2.
The Jackals added a run in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Kevin Grijak walked, scoring LaFlair.
Elmira cut the lead by one in the top of the fourth, off a solo homerun by Kurt Piantek.
The run would be regained once again by the Jackals in the bottom half of the inning. Darren Ciraco cranked a solo homerun to lead off the inning. Through five, the Jackals led 8-3.
Grijak added a sacrifice fly in the following inning, fattening New Jersey's lead.
He did it again for the Jackals in the bottom of the eighth. He led off the inning with a solo homerun, for his fifth RBI of the ballgame. The RBI set a new, New Jersey Jackals' team record, with 76 RBI in the season, eclipsing the record previously set by Travis Bailey and Carmine Cappuccio. The homer made it 10-3 New Jersey, and that's the way it ended.
Elmira starter Julio LaSalle was the loser in four innings. He gave up eight earned runs, on eight hits, while walking eight and striking out two.
Evan Neiser picked up the victory for the Jackals in three and one third innings of work. Neiser surrendered three earned runs on four hits, while walking two, and fanning four.
For the Jackals, John Anderson reached base four times in five plate appearances, including a double and a single. Zack Smithlin also reached base four times on three singles and a walk. Kevin Grijak went 2-3 with a homerun, and five RBI.
Kurt Piantek went 3-4, while going a double short of the cycle. He drove in three runs in the contest.
The New Jersey Jackals welcome the Northeast League Aces to Yogi Berra Stadium for a three game series. It is a doubleheader, with the second game beginning 25 minutes after completion of the first game. Both games are scheduled to last 7 innings. Playoff tickets are currently on sale for the 2004 season. The Jackals have already clinched a spot, after winning the first half South Division Championship. Their opponent is yet to be determined. The ballclub will be playing at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday September 9, 2004. Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game five will be played on Sunday, September 12, 2004, with a 5:05 p.m. start. Box seats are $11.00 and reserved seats are $9.00. Lawn seats are priced at $6.00, but will only be sold if both box and reserved seats are sold out. No discounts or coupons will be accepted during the playoffs.
Come to March of Dimes Night at Yogi Berra Stadium, on Thursday, September 9, 2004. 50 percent of your ticket price will be donated to the March of Dimes. It is also game two of the first round, of the 2004 Northeast League Playoffs. The Jackals' opponent has yet to be determined. The New Jersey Jackals and the United Way of North Essex are joining together to boost New Jersey non-for-profits. Forty community agencies will be selling Jackals tickets for the upcoming 2004 playoff games, beginning on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, Thursday September 9, 2004, and Sunday, September 12, 2004, if necessary. All of these games will be played at Yogi Berra Stadium. These community agencies will earn a commission for all of their ticket sales. Support your United Away agency, and help them raise money for their worthy causes.
New Jersey Jackals' shortstop Chris Rowan eclipsed the team record for homeruns as a member of the ballclub, on Friday, August 7, 2004. Rowan hit his 29th as a member of the Jackals, and 17th of the 2004 season, eclipsing Travis Bailey's record of 28. On Thursday August 12, 2004, Rowan also broke the league record for grand slams in a season. In an 8-5 win over Quebec, Rowan belted his third grand slam of 2004 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
