
ValleyCats snap losing streak

Troy, NY- The Tri-City ValleyCats cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Staten Island Yankees thanks in large part to a six run second inning. The 'Cats ended their five game losing streak with the win.
The ValleyCats got on board in the second inning with four hits in a row off of Yankees starter Mike Knox. Chris Clark led off with a walk. Kevin Vital dropped a single into the outfield to advance Clark to second. Then Brandon Averill doubled home Clark for the first run of the game. Newest ValleyCat Brady Koch swung on the first professional pitch he saw and lined a single into right field. Vital scored to make it 2-0. Luke Barganier stepped up and laced another single to bring in Averill. The inning would not stop. Ben Zobrist got on two outs in the inning.
He would come home on a Mario Garza two-run home run on the left-field wall. The home run was his seventh of the year and capped off a six run inning.
The night was finished for Mike Knox. He threw only two innings and was relieved by Drew Edwards. The right-hander was touched up for one run when Kevin Vital walked, advanced to third base on a single by Brandon Averill, and came around to score on a single by Jonny Ash.
Ronnie Martinez was absolutely outstanding in his seventh start of the season. He scattered four hits over six innings, walked four while striking out five men.
The ValleyCats added two more runs in the seventh off of Sean Kramer. Brandon Averill led off by belting a triple down the right-field line. He trotted home when Brady Koch lined a double past the glove of the diving third baseman Vechionacci. Koch scored on a throwing error by Vechionacci. The score was 9-0.
Anthony Dewitt pitched a scoreless seventh and was relieved by Bo Edmiston. After pitching a scoreless eighth, he gave up a run to Staten Island in the ninth inning.
The ValleyCats are back in action tomorrow night against Staten Island. Game time is set for 7:00. The game can be heard in the Capital Region on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs.
