ValleyCats 10 Game Winning Streak Snapped

BURLINGTON, VT-The Tri-City ValleyCats fell behind 6-0 only to fight back and lose 7-6 to Vermont at Centennial Field. The ValleyCats 10 game winning streak came to an end with the loss.

The ValleyCats fell behind early to Vermont. Edgardo Baez hit a three-run homer off ValleyCats starter Ryan McKeller in the first inning. McKeller surrendered a two-run shot to Ofilio Castro in the second inning. He allowed six runs in the first two innings. He retired Vermont in order in the third, fourth and sixth inning.

Tri-City started their comeback in the third inning. Luke Barganier singled and advanced to second on an error by Vermont leftfielder Marvin Lowrance. Hunter Pence grounded out and Ben Zobrist singled him home to make it 6-1.

In the fifth inning, Tri-City scored two runs off Expos starter Clyde Jenkins. Edgar Babilonia singled and went to second on a single by Luke Barganier. Pence's double brought home Babilonia. Luke Barganier then crossed home plate on a groundout by Ben Zobrist.

Paul Estrada came on in the seventh inning and gave up a run when Ofilio Castro singled and moved around the bases due to two wild pitches. The Expos led 7-3 after seven innings.

The ValleyCats scored a run in the eight and notched two in the ninth against the New York-Penn. League leader in saves Gus Hlebovy. Edgar Babilonia started the inning with a single and stole second base. After Luke Barganier struck out, Hunter Pence doubled home and Babilonia crossed home plate.

Ben Zobrist was hit by a pitch and after Mario Garza struck out, Francisco Caraballo singled home Pence. ValleyCats manager Gregg Langbehn sent Drew Sutton up to the plate to pinch hit for Brady Koch. Sutton struck out and Hlebovy recorded his 15th save.

The ValleyCats and Expos finish up their four game series and season series tomorrow afternoon. Game time is set for 5:05 and coverage starts at 4:40 on AM 1160 WABY Mechanicville and AM 900 WUAM Saratoga Springs as well as on the Internet at sportsjuice.com.
