New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals, (St. Louis Cardinals) fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), 3-1. The loss was the Cards second straight to Hudson Valley and third in a row overall. They now trail the wild card leading Renegades by 2.5 games. Chris Della Rocco (2-3) suffered the loss for the Cardinals (35-33), while Jarrad Lavergne (3-2) picked up the win for the Renegades (36-29). Jose Delacruz earned the save for Hudson Valley.

The game was a classic pitchers duel, as both starters held their opponents at bay for the first six innings. In the top of the 7th, Hudson Valley broke through first when John Jaso doubled to right and later scored on Matthew Springs single to left, and they tallied another run in both the 8th and the 9th innings. The Cards tried to rally in both the 8th and the 9th, but the Renegades bullpen closed the door.

On the day, Sean Dobson picked up two hits in four at-bats for the Cards, while Wes Swackhamer and Chris Patrick also banged out hits. Dobsons hits included a double to lead off the 9th inning, and he later scored the Cards only run on a Steve Sherman sacrifice fly to left.

Tomorrow night the Cards travel to Hudson Valley to conclude their 3-game set with the Renegades; it is the final time the two teams will meet this season. The Cards then return home for a 6-game home stand to close the regular season. Vermont (Montreal Expos) comes to Skylands Park August 30 through September 1 and then Aberdeen (Baltimore Orioles) pays a visit September 2 4. On Monday, Kids Eat Freecourtesy of KFC and the New Jersey Herald, Thursday, Phils Ford sponsors a Cardinals baseball giveaway, Friday night is fireworks night thanks to the New Jersey Herald, and Saturday is Rally Cow Bobblehead giveaway day.
