Akron RubberDucks News Release
Clutch late game hitting allows the Akron RubberDucks to come from behind to down the Harrisburg Senators 8-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Canal Park. Cleveland Guardians outfielder Oscar Gonzalez played six innings as part of his rehab appearance going 0-for-2 with a walk, run scored and a defensive putout in right field.
Turning Point
Trailing by three runs in the seventh, Akron's offense came alive. A leadoff single by Daniel Schneemann and another single from Brayan Rocchio put runners on the corners for Bryan Lavastida, who lifted a sac-fly to score Schneemann. After a Julian Escobedo single advanced Rocchio to third, George Valera singled home Rocchio. A throwing error allowed Escobedo to score on the play and placed Valera at second, tying the game 7-7.
Mound Presence
Luis Oviedo, got the start for Akron and looked strong early striking out three of the first seven he faced. The Senators long ball eventually got to Oviedo the rest of the way. Oviedo finished with four and two thirds innings pitched, giving up four runs while punching out five. Carlos Vargas followed with a third of an inning, giving up three runs. Kyle Marman threw a scoreless inning. Cade Smith followed with two scoreless innings. Robert Broom threw a scoreless ninth and picked up the save.
Duck Tales
Jose Tena and Rocchio got the game started off with back-to-back singles leading to a Lavastida double, driving home Tena, giving Akron the early lead 1-0. Valera drove home Rocchio on a groundout, increasing the lead to 2-0 for Akron in the first inning. Oscar Gonzalez walked in the bottom of the sixth and was driven in by a Valera double making it 7-3 Harrisburg. Valera scored in the sixth via wild pitch making it 7-4 Harrisburg. Chris Roller roped a triple off the centerfield wall before coming home to score the go ahead run on a Schneemann single into left field making it 8-7 Akron in the bottom of the eighth.
