
Utah loses to Cincinnati

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT - Utah dropped their fourth straight game on Friday night and continued their slump against Cincinnati falling to 0-5-0-1 versus the Ducks as the dropped a 4-2 decision.
The Grizzlies came out flying in the first period recording eight of the game's first 12 shots and scoring the first goal of the game when Kiel McLeod wrested a shot towards Ilya Bryzgalov that Martin Sonnenberg redirected for his 10th goal of the season at the 4:52 mark of the period. McLeod and Fredrik Sjostrom drew the assists. For Utah it ended a scoreless stretch against the Ducks that spanned 189:16. Cincinnati answered back though using special teams to gain the advantage. On their first power play of the game, Joffrey Lupul notched his ninth point of the season against the Grizzlies (4-5 -9) scoring his team leading 16th goal of the season assisted by Stanislav Chistov and Joel Perrault. Later in the period, the Ducks went shorthanded and former Grizzly Zenon Konopka scored a shorthanded goal, tying Lupul for the team lead with his 16th goal of the season, assisted by Lupul. Utah outshot the Ducks 10-9 in the period but trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes.
The Ducks controlled the second period outshooting the Grizzlies 14-11 and putting the only goal of the period on the board. The marker came at the 6:29 mark of the period when Pierre Parenteau scored his 12th goal of the season assisted by Alexei Smirnov and Joel Perrault. Utah had three more power play chances in the period but failed to convert making them 0 for 6 in the game and 0 for their last 27 overall.
Each team notched a goal in the third period with the Ducks striking first extending their lead to 4-1 after Dustin Penner created a turnover that found Cory Pecker in front of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Utah cut the lead to two goals late in the period with Jarrod Skalde finding the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season assisted by Justin Cox and Sonnenberg. Utah emptied the net with two minutes remaining but couldn't beat Bryzgalov falling 4-2.
The Ducks outshot the Grizzlies 33-26 as Bryzgalov finished with 24 saves improving to 15-11-1 and 5-0 versus the Grizzlies. Jamie Storr took the loss falling to 3-4 with Utah making 29 saves.
Utah will host Cincinnati again tomorrow night at the 'E' Center with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM.
