Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - Despite out-shooting the Chicago Wolves 45-28, the Hamilton Bulldogs three-game winning streak was snapped with a 4-3 loss on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs record drops to 27-25-6-5, as they remain one point behind the Edmonton Road Runners for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division.

The Wolves notched the only two goals of the first period. Lonny Bohonos opened the scoring on the power play at 9:35 with a hard shot from the point that went off the post and in past goaltender Yann Danis. Then at 18:33, forward Steve Maltais gave the Wolves a 2-0 lead with his 16th goal of the season.

The Bulldogs stormed back in the second period with three goals in the first 6:07 of the frame. Captain Jason Ward got Hamilton on the scoreboard just 42 seconds into the period with a goal assisted by Steve Ott. Then after some hard work to keep the puck in the offensive zone by defenceman James Sanford, Antti Miettinen set up Steve Begin at the 5:11 mark for his second goal of the season. The Bulldogs then took the lead at 6:07 with a power-play goal from defenceman Ron Hainsey.

With two goals in the first half of the third period, the Wolves would take the lead 4-3. Chicago drew even at 7:19 when Maltais scored his second goal of the night. Then at 8:44, Vigier gave the Wolves the lead with his 25th goal of the season and second point of the game. The Bulldogs were unable to recover and the goal would stand as the game-winner.

Ron Hainsey's goal in the second period marked his eighth career power-play goal and moved him into first place all-time amongst Bulldogs defenceman in goals scored with the man-advantage.

Yann Danis made 24 saves on 28 shots in the game while Chicago netminder Kari Lehtonen turned aside 42 of the 45 shots he faced.

Jay Bouwmeester and Stephen Weiss were held pointless in their first games as Chicago Wolves since being loaned from the San Antonio Rampage earlier in the week.
