West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (18-16-6-9) fell 4-3 in a shootout to Bakersfield Monday night at the E-Center in the first game of their four-game in six-night home stand.

Newly acquired forward Matt Rogers scored his first goal of the year with the Grizzlies at 10:36 in the first period on a breakaway setup by Scott Thauwald. Bakersfield matched it though 38 seconds later to make it 1-1. With 1:14 to go in the first period, Tom May scored a goal making it 2-1 for Utah as he camped out in front of the net. May has now scored a goal in ten-straight games for the Grizzlies and is the first ECHL player since 2000-2001 to have a goal in ten-straight games.

The Condors tied it up 2-2 just past the halfway point in the second but 2:23 later at 14:47, Mark Pavli wound up and smashed one past Bakersfield goaltender Yutaka Fukufiji on a drop pass by James Brannigan to make it 3-2 to finish the second period.

The third period went scoreless until 18:33 in when the Grizzlies were whistled for a delay of game penalty for clearing the puck out of play in their own end. At 19:13 Bakersfield tied it up 3-3, with a six-on-four power-play goal as they also skated with an extra-attacker.

The five minutes of overtime went scoreless along with the first six rounds of the shootout. The seventh shooter for Bakersfield, Matt Pope, slipped one past Mannino's split legs and the Grizzlies were unable to match it.

The shorthanded Grizzlies played smart, only committing 3 penalties all game, but were unable to capitalize on the six power-play opportunities given to them.

Goaltender Peter Mannino had another strong showing stopping 34 of 37 shots. Mannino has allowed only 13 goals in the Grizzlies past six games.

Utah returns home Wednesday with Bakersfield and Friday and Saturday with Stockton for four games in six nights. Face-off for all games will be at 7:05 p.m. at the E-Center.
