
USA Baseball National Collegiate Team to Play Columbia Thursday

COLUMBIA, SC (June 18, 2014) - The Columbia Blowfish announced at a press conference today that they will host the 2014 USA Collegiate National Team on Thursday, June 26, at Capital City Stadium.
The USA Collegiate National Team consists of 32 of the country's top collegiate baseball players. The team competes in exhibition games across the U.S. and overseas against teams such as Chinese Taipei, Japan and Cuba.
Notable players on the 2014 USA Collegiate National Team include: Clemson University's Chris Okey, College of Charleston's Bailey Ober and Skylar Hunter of The Citadel.
This year will mark the 5 th consecutive year that Coastal Plain League teams have welcomed the USA Collegiate National Team. It will not be the first time the Blowfish have hosted an international squad. The USA Collegiate National Team has made stops in Columbia in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Columbia also welcomed the Japanese Collegiate All-Stars, where the Blowfish would go on to defeat Japan 5-4 in a 9 th inning walk-off thriller.
"We are very excited to have been chosen to host the USA Collegiate National Team this year," Blowfish General Manager, Kelly Evans said. "his is a huge opportunity for our ball club and for our fans. I would like to thank the CPL, Eric Campbell and USA Baseball for making this happen."
Eric Campbell, General Manager of USA Baseball, is looking forward to the team's return to Capital City Stadium. "Bill Shanahan (Owner of the Blowfish) has always been a gracious host, and we enjoy making the trip to Columbia," he said. "This game is fun for players and coaches of both teams, and gives the fans a pretty intriguing match up to watch."
