Owls Fall at Edenton

FOREST CITY - After snapping the Pilots winning streak last night, the Forest City Owls were defeated on Wednesday night in Edenton.

The Owls fought back late in the game after an RBI single from Tony DiMartino in the 8th but fell short 4-2 and fall to 10-9 on the season.

Nick Neitzel took the mound for the Owls tonight and went five 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out ten hitters.

Jordan Miller replaced him in the sixth, making his Owls debut as a pitcher. Steven Pallares also made his Owls pitching debut, throwing the 8th inning giving up a run.

The Owls got on the board in the first inning after an RBI single by Hunter Bryant, part of a three hit inning.

Conor Clancey and Bryant each had two hits tonight for the Owls.

Earlier today, Bryant was named to the 2014 CPL Select Team that will take on Team USA on Sunday, June 22 in Cary, N.C.

The Steamers got their runs from a wild pitch and an error in the fourth inning, a double in the sixth inning and a double in the 8th inning.

The Owls will play a double header in Columbia tomorrow night starting at 5:00.

The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Friday night they take on Asheboro at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ½ season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
