
Union Advance to Round of 16 of Concacaf Champions Cup

CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union faced Deportivo Saprissa in the second leg of the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round One on Tuesday night at Subaru Park, securing a hard-fought 3-3 draw to advance to the Round of 16. Saprissa took the lead in the 14th minute of the first half with a penalty kick from Luis Paradela. Union forward Julian Carranza responded with a goal in the 17th minute. Homegrown midfielder Quinn Sullivan scored in the 26th minute assisted by midfielder Daniel Gazdag, giving the Union the lead. In the 28th minute, Warren Madrigal of Saprissa scored to level the match. Saprissa took the lead in the 62nd minute from a free kick by Mariano Torres. Forward Mikael Uhre scored in the 94th minute from midfielder Jack McGlynn's corner to give the Union the advantage on aggregate. The Union will start their Round of 16 series against C.F. Pachuca at Subaru Park on Tuesday, March 5th at 6 p.m. ET.
The Union will return to MLS play on Saturday, March 2, where they travel to Children's Mercy Park to play Sporting Kansas City (8:30 p.m. ET / Apple TV).

With the goal tonight, forward Julian Carranza became the Union's all time goal scorer in the Concacaf Champions Cup with six goals.
Goalkeeper Oliver Semmle registered five saves to help the Union advance to the next round.
