Unfamiliar Territory as Saints 10-Game Win Streak Snapped in 6-2 Loss

ST. PAUL, MN (June 7, 2015) - It was bound to happen, but the St. Paul Saints were hoping to ride the single-season franchise tying winning streak to a few more victories. Unfortunately, on Sunday evening at CHS Field they fell to the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-2 in front of 7,510, losing for just the second time this season and first at their newly minted ballpark.

The Saints fell behind in the first when Michael Wing doubled and scored on a single by David Bergin. During the 10 game winning streak the Saints trailed for just five innings. They trailed this one until the fourth when they tied it up at one.

Ian Gac led off the fourth with a double to right-center and Mike Kvasnicka just missed hitting in over the right field wall, driving in Gac with a single. Kvasnicka finished the night 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Canaries took advantage of a little wildness by Saints starter Kramer Sneed in the sixth. Jason Repko led off the inning with a double and Brian Humphries attempted to sacrifice him over. After fouling two pitches off, Sneed hit Humphries to put runners at first and second. RJ Perucki attempted to do the same thing, but on an 0-1 pitch Sneed hit him to load the bases. After a 20 minute rain delay Sneed came back out there and on an 0-1 pitch he hit Vickash Ramjit to force in a run and give the Canaries a 2-1 lead. Sneed left the game and Alan Oaks worked his magic to get out of the jam and not allow any further damage.

The Canaries, however, got the best of Oaks in the seventh. Michael Wing led off the inning with a solo homer to left, his second of the season to make it 3-1 Canaries. David Bergin followed with a double and moved to third on a single by Richard Stock. A sacrifice fly by Repko gave the Canaries a 4-1 lead.

The Saints answered back in the bottom of the inning when Gac led off with a walk. Kvasnicka doubled him to third and, after a pitching change, Angelo Songco's RBI ground out made it 4-2. The Saints could have done further damage, after Vinny DiFazio walked, but Joey Paciorek grounded into an inning ending double play.

The Saints welcome in the Joplin Blasters on Monday night for a three game series with game one beginning at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Robert Coe (1-0, 2.08) to the mound against Blasters RHP Jorge Martinez (2-0, 1.06). It is Show Us Your Pipes Night presented by District Energy. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities area, and heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
