RailCats Sign INF/OF Rogers

RAMAPO, NY - The Gary South Shore RailCats have signed INF/OF Stephen Rogers and placed Zachary Zdanowicz on the disabled list retroactive to June 3rd.

Stephen Rogers, was a late non-roster invitee to spring training for the RailCats after he spent the beginning of spring training with Florence in the Frontier League. Rogers, from Watertown, Massachusetts, was one of the final roster cuts before opening day. Rogers is cut from the same mold as many of the other RailCats with a solid college career and the ability to play multiple positions.

After his release Rogers was signed by Salvi Sports sister club in the Frontier League the Schaumburg Boomers on May 23rd. Rogers debuted with a solid 2-for-4 performance against the Lake Erie Crushers May 23rd. In 2014 Rogers appeared in 22 games for the Frontier Greys after a successful collegiate career at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Rogers has the ability to play multiple positions and has played third base, second base, and outfield in his professional career and was collegiate level hockey player as well as a baseball standout.

Zdanowicz was singed on May 6th after the Albuquerque, New Mexico native played in 11 games for the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. In Fort Worth he hit .333 going 8 for 24 with five RBI. Zdanowicz played three seasons at Henderson State University in Arkansas, where as a senior in 2013 he hit .397 with two homeruns and 21 RBI in 40 games.

Zdanowicz , began the season on the inactive list but was activated on May 28th in Lincoln and has played in four games for the South Shore. He is 0-for-10 so far this season with one run scored and two stolen bases.

The RailCats continue their nine game road trip with the final game of the three game series against the Rockland Boulders in New York on Sunday. The first pitch from Provident Bank Park is scheduled for 1:00pm. The game can be heard on the radio on 95.9 WEFM in NWI and online at RailCatsbaseball.com. The club returns home on Friday to face the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks at 7:10pm at US Steel Yard.
