Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Pee Dee Pride announced today that goaltender Matt Underhill has been invited to the Chicago Blackhawks' Prospect Camp. The camp begins tomorrow in Chicago and runs through July 5.
Underhill has played the last two seasons with the Pride, posting a 26-27-5 record. He was also named to the Southern Conference All-Star Team for the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game in Estero, FL.
The Campbell River, BC native appeared in one game for the Blackhawks this past season. Getting the start on an emergency basis on March 7 against the Edmonton Oilers, Underhill made 29 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss.
In the past two seasons, he has also spent time in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs. In 11 AHL games, he posted a record of 5-5-1.
"No one deserves this opportunity more than Matt," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "I have never seen a player work as hard as Undy nor have I ever coached a player so dedicated to being the very best. Player development is our top priority and we wish Matt well in Chicago."
Included on the 37-player camp roster are 12 of the Blackhawks' 17 picks from last weekend's NHL Entry Draft in Raleigh, including the third-overall pick of the draft, defenseman Cam Barker.
