San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls and veteran defenseman Samy Nasreddine have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season, head coach Martin St. Amour announced on Tuesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Nasreddine, who will turn 28 in August, re-joins the Gulls for his fifth season. Last season he notched 33 points (10g, 23a) and 48 penalty minutes in 63 games played. His 10 goals was a career high and 33 points was second among all San Diego defensemen. Nasreddine also led the Gulls with a plus/minus rating of +17.

During his four-year stint with San Diego (which included three seasons in the West Coast Hockey League), Nasreddine has recorded 101 points (30g, 71a) and 188 penalty minutes in 232 games. He's also racked up a plus/minus rating of +84 in his tenure with the Blue and Orange.

"It's exciting to be back for my fifth season," Nasreddine said. "I'm happy that I know my coaches going into the season [St. Amour and Jamie Black] and that I'll be comfortable with them. I know how they think and what they like to do, so it'll be easy to work with them. I'm definitely looking forward to being a part of another winning season."

Nasreddine and goaltender Trevor Koenig, who both joined the team during the 2000-01 season, are now the most tenured Gulls. When Dennis Purdie went down with a shoulder injury the middle of last season, Nasreddine took over as the team captain.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound native of Montreal began his professional career with the East Coast Hockey League's Peoria Rivermen in 1997-98. He netted a career high 40 points during his rookie campaign before being promoted to American Hockey League's Fredericton Canadiens in 1998-99. Nasreddine moved on to the ECHL's New Orleans Brass in 1999-00 and Baton Rouge Kingfish in 2000-01. The Gulls acquired him in November 2000.

The Gulls open their second season in the ECHL Friday, Oct. 22 in Long Beach and open their home schedule Saturday, Oct. 23 against Fresno. Season ticket packages are currently on sale. For pricing and benefits, contact 619-224-GOAL, ext. 7. Individual tickets will go on sale starting Saturday, Sept. 25.
