May 22, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Thursday, May 22nd, 2008) - The still undefeated Carolina RailHawks (2-0-3) will host their arch rival Rochester Rhinos (0-4-2) on Saturday, May 24th at 7:30 PM at WakeMed Soccer park in the second match of the first ever RailHawks W-League/USL-1 doubleheader. The match is presented by Novozymes and the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive crimson clover seed packets courtesy of the world leader in bio-innovations. The match will be played following the Carolina RailHawks Women - Carolina Dynamo contest which will take place at 4:00 PM. For the occasion the RailHawks will be offering a "Two Games and Two Tickets for One Price" special deal to all soccer fans and tickets ($10, $15 and $20) may be purchased at the LGFCU Box Office or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
The Carolina RailHawks will be looking to defend their home field and earn three important points against a team that has not won a match so far this season. Midfielders matt Watson and Martin Nunez as well as forward Dan Antoniuk are all expected to start and excite all soccer fans with their phenomenal skills and ball control.
"We mustn't look at Rochester's record," said RailHawks head coach Scott Schweitzer. "They have only played one game at home and all their away games were against excellent West Coast teams. We will not underestimate them as having no wins makes them hungry and dangerous especially with the quality of players and coaches they have."
The Rhinos have had a difficult off-season with a change of ownership and coaching staff but Rochester's new head coach Darren Tilley, a former teammate of Scott Schweitzer's, has built upon the core of last year's team and brought in some serious hitters like English and Scottish Premier League veteran midfielder Steve Guppy and Brazilian USL veteran forward Mauricio Salles to add depth to the team.
"I'm looking forward to meeting up with Mr. Economides and playing against one of Scotty's teams," said Rhinos head coach Darren Tilley. "I feel as though our team is progressing and the results are not a sign of what we are capable of. If we play at the level I know we are capable of then I would expect a competitive match between the two sides."
The RailHawks will have one more home game in May when they host the 2007 USL Champion Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, May 28th at 7:30 PM at WakeMed Soccer Park. The RailHawks Women's next game will be on Friday June 6th against the Bradenton Atheletics at 7:30 PM at WakeMed Soccer Park. For information on tickets to these events and all special offers contact the LGFCU Box Office at 919-859-KICK (5425) or visit www.carolinarailhawks.com
