Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release
BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Mahoning Valley Thunder and the arenafootball2 League Office are pleased to announce that FB Tim Murphy and DB Maurice Taylor have been named to the All-af2 First and Second Team, respectively.
Murphy (6'0, 240, Pitt) closed out his rookie season with 67 carries for 343 yards and 14 touchdowns in just 14 games. Murphy was with the team during training camp but was re-assigned before the season opener. He was brought back after injuries at the fullback position and started in the final 14 games of the year. In his finest performance of the year, Murphy rushed for 55 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns on June 16 versus Quad City.
"Mo" Taylor (5'11, 185, Northern Arizona), who prepped at Warren Harding High School, completed his third season in af2, and first with the Thunder. The only Thunder player to start in every game, Taylor ranked near the top at a variety of defensive categories. He ranked first in tackles with 81.0 tackles (71 solo, 20 assisted), interceptions (7) and pass break ups (15) and finished second with four forced fumbles. He etched his name in the Thunder record book with the first interception return for a touchdown on May 25 versus Manchester - a 50-yard return for the score.
"We are extremely excited and happy for both Tim and Mo," said Thunder Head Coach Mike Hold. "They are two players who are undoubtedly deserving of the honors and the majority of our success this year was due to their performances."
