Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats used three unanswered runs, including two in the seventh inning to take their series-opener from the Connecticut Tigers by a score of 3-2.

Despite collecting only five hits, the ValleyCats made the most of them, with Andy Pinedamanufacturing all three of the ValleyCats' runs.

Pineda singled in the fifth inning, stole second and scored from there on an RBI-single from Austin Dennis to give the ValleyCats' their first run of the game.

That made it a 2-1 game, as Connecticut scored one each in the second and third innings, highlighted by a 434-foot homer off the bat of Nick Ames.

Brett Conine and Carlos Hiraldo then held the Tigers off the scoreboard the rest of the way through, while Hiraldo earned his team-lead-tying fourth win of the season.

Behind the dominant work from Tri-City's bullpen, Andy Pineda sealed the game's fate in the seventh inning.

After Juan Pineda reached base with a walk, Andy Pineda brought him home with a triple that tied the score at 2-2.

Moments later, Ramiro Rodriguez lined out to Nick Ames at first, before Ames tried to double up off of Pineda, who was still at third at the time of the hard liner. The catch was missed by third baseman Cam Warner, resulting in the game-winning run coming across.

The 3-2 win puts the ValleyCats at 33-23 on the season, a season-high 10 games above .500, with a three-game lead over Lowell for first place in the Stedler division.

Tri-City will seek its second straight two-game sweep with a win on Thursday night against Connecticut at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
