Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs come back from the All-Star break six games out of the wildcard spot, and eight back of the division leaders, Mahoning Valley. This is the last time that West Virginia comes to Dwyer Stadium this season.
That was last night- Before the All-Star break, Batavia took the final game in Williamsport by a 2-1 final. Humberto Mejia struck out nine batters in his five innings of work. In the 2018 NYPL All-Star Game, the North team that had Batavia's represenatives lost to the South team 7-1.
Stars Shining in Batavia- The Muckdogs are sending three players to the 2018 NYPL All-Star Game at State College. Jerar Encarnacion, Sean Reynolds and Manuel Rodriguez will represent the Muckdogs. Batavia's coaching staff will also be responsible for managing the North roster.
Rodriguez Rocks The 'Pen- LHP Manuel Rodriguez has been lights out for Batavia this season from the bullpen. He has not given up an earned run this season since June 19th. That stretch has lasted 30.2 innings for Rodriguez. Six of his last seven outings have seen him also strike out at least four batters, including a season-high seven his last time out.
Two-out trouble- The Muckdogs have had issues getting out of innings once they've reorded two outs. Batavia has given up a .275 average with RISP and two outs. Of Batavia's 264 runs against, 107 of them have crossed the plate with RISP and two outs.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in 21 of his last 27 games. He's tallied 31 hits, three home runs and has crossed the plate nine times in that span. He is tied for second on the team with four home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Close Calls- Batavia has played a total of 54 games this season, 34 of which have been decided by two runs or less. Batvia has played the most one-run games of any team this season, and the Muckdogs are 17-17 in games decided by two or less. Batavia has the third-best reord in one-run games, and the worst record in two-run games at 2-7.
Recent Roster Action- On August 15th, INF Gunnar Schubert, INF Bubba Hollins and OF Ricardo Cespedes were assigned to Batavia
Marlins Update- The Marlins dropped to the NL-East leaders, the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. Ronald Acuna mashed two home runs, making in eight homers in eight games, including five straight. JT Realmuto had two hits and four RBIs in the loss.
