Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks scored twice in the first and twice in the third for a 4-1 Friday night win against the Sioux Falls Stampede at Sanford Premier Center.
The visitors took the lead 8:52 into the game. Tyler Kostelecky advanced the puck into the offensive zone and took a shot that went off the leg of a defender, crossing up goalie Isak Posch. The attempt hit one post before zinging across the goalmouth just inside the other pipe.
Tucker Ness made it 2-0 at 15:32, blasting in a chance from the right circle. The opportunity came after Waterloo had been swarming the area around the crease; John Waldron poked the puck from behind the goal to Ness, who was able to wind up for a full slapshot.
After a scoreless second period, Sioux Falls closed in as the teams skated four-on-four. At 4:21, a Waterloo turnover caught the Hawks in a change; Blake Humphrey came up the slot and lifted his chance to the top corner over Jack Williams' left shoulder.
The Hawks shook off that goal and tallied two more before the end of regulation. At 8:11, Waldron hung with a deflected pass from Michael LaStarza, taking a couple of whacks at a puck that ended up going in just under the crossbar. Then at 11:28, Cam VanSickle forced a turnover near the Stampede blue line, springing Conner Schneider across the slot one-on-one with Posch. Schneider finished the opportunity for his first USHL goal.
Williams made 19 saves for the victory. In three appearances against the Stampede this season, he has stopped 69 of the 71 shots he has faced.
The Hawks are back home to host the Tri-City Storm at 6:05 on Saturday. It's Star Wars Night as Waterloo meets the Western Conference-leading Storm. For seats, call the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com.
