Ogden Raptors News Release

OGDEN, UT - On a night where storms brought a chill to Lindquist Field, the Ogden Raptors bats went cold in a 3-1 loss to visiting Great Falls.

While the pitching staff worked around 13 Voyagers hits to keep the Raptors in the game, the batters were coming up empty on various well-hit and well-placed balls.

Twice line drives off the bat of Jon Littell were caught in the outfield and turned into double plays. Multiple fly balls carried to the warning track but were run down. Once a bloop to right was snared on a dive by the Great Falls right fielder.

The Raptors' offense couldn't catch a break, and in the first inning a bad break allowed the Voyagers to go on the board. After Wes Helsabeck retired the first two hitters, a ground ball toward short seemed destined to end the frame. The ball hit the edge of the infield grass and kicked up and over Jeremy Arocho, however, starting two-out rally culminating in an RBI double.

In the second, Ogden tied the game when Niko Hulsizer, who reached on an error, scored on a James Outman triple into the right field corner. After Marcus Chiu walked, Littell sent a line drive to right field that stayed in the air. Outman tagged at third and tried to score the go-ahead run, but Logan Sowers' throw was just in time and Outman was called out at the plate.

The Voyagers came back in the third with another two-out, bases-empty rally. Travis Moniot doubled high off Raptor Ridge and scored to give the visitors the lead on a Bryce Bush single. They added their final run in the fifth when Moniot singled to lead off, moved to second with two out on a single to right and scored on a base hit up the middle.

After the second inning, Ogden's best threat came in the seventh. Outman drew a leadoff walk and Chiu lifted a shallow fly ball to right field. Sowers sprinted in and made a dive to catch it, keeping the Raptors from putting two on with no one out. Littell then stung the ball to center as Outman broke to steal second, but the line drive went right to Jay Estes in center field and Outman was doubled up to end the inning.

The Voyagers now lead the four-game series, 2-1, and the two teams are tied in the season series at three wins apiece. The finale is scheduled for a 6:30 start Thursday night.
