
Two homers not enough as Peoria drops Kernels, 7-4

May 29, 2008 - Solo home runs by Jay Brossman and Julio Perez weren't enough offense as the Peoria Chiefs defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 7-4, on Thursday night at O'Brien Field in Peoria. Both home runs came off Peoria starter Chris Siegfried in the fourth inning.
Brossman's home run was his third of the season and Perez's was his fourth.
Kernels starter Jordan Walden (2-5) was roughed up for five runs on seven hits in taking the loss. He walked two, struck out three and gave up a three run home run to Elvis Lara in the second inning.
Efren Navarro was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI as the Kernels had seven hits on the night. Hector Estrella was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Andrew Romine and Gordie Gronkowski each had a single.
Peoria reliever Kevin Kreier (2-0) picked up the win, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out three over four innings and Stephen Vento struck out two in the ninth for his fourth save.
