Chiefs Rhee Returns From DL For Friday Start

Kreier sent to Mesa after winning Thursday

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that starting pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee has been activated from the disabled list and will start against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Friday at 6:30 PM. To make room on the roster the Chiefs have sent pitcher Kevin Kreier to extended spring training in Mesa, Arizona.

Rhee, who last appeared on April 22 in Lansing, was placed on the disabled list with right triceps tendonitis three days later. Prior to being placed on the disabled list, Rhee made four starts while posting a 3-1 record and a 2.12 ERA in his first professional season. The right-hander struck out 16 batters and walked just five in his 17 innings of work. The native of Seoul, South Korea signed with the Cubs as a free agent this off-season. He is the first Korean-born pitcher to pitch for the Chiefs and he did not pitch professionally in the United States in 2007.

Kreier was drafted in the 20th round last June out of high school in Nevada, and he picked up the win in relief Thursday night before heading back to Mesa. He relieved Chris Siegfried and retired the first 11 batters he faced before allowing two run in the eighth. Kreier earned his first career win on May 23 against Quad Cities, also out of the bullpen in relief of Siegfried. In four appearances, two of which were starts, Kreier posted a 2-0 record with a 5.80 ERA. The 20-year-old struck out 15 and walked just two batters in 15 innings of work.

The first 2,000 fans through the gates on Friday night will receive a Joe Girardi caricature t-shirt as part of a four-shirt series to be given away throughout the season. The World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales will also be making a return appearance to O'Brien Field. The Clydesdales were on hand last year as part of Opening Day and will participate in pre-game activities on the field.
