Two Former Monarchs To Represent United States

MANCHESTER, NH - Former Manchester Monarchs and current Los Angeles Kings forwards Dustin Brown and Patrick O'Sullivan will represent the United States at the 2008 World Championship tournament, the Kings announced today in conjunction with USA Hockey. The World Championship is scheduled for May 2-18 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Quebec City, Quebec.
Brown, 23, most recently played for Team USA at the 2006 World Championship where he led his club in both goals and assists. He has also skated for Team USA at the 2004 World Championship where he won a bronze medal; at the 2003 World Junior Championship where he won a gold medal; and at the 2002 World Junior Championship where he was the youngest member of the team.
For the Kings this past season, Brown played in 78 games and led the Kings in goals with 33. He also finished third in points (60), tied for sixth in assists (27), tied for first in power-play goals (12) and second in game-winning goals (four). Brown also led the NHL in hits with 311, and this past Saturday he was named the club's Most Inspirational Player/Ace Bailey Memorial Award (as voted by his teammates) and the Most Popular Player (as selected by the Kings Booster Club). He was originally selected by the Kings in the first-round (13th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, and is a native of Ithaca, New York. Brown played in 79 games with the Monarchs during the 2004-05 season and recorded 74 points (29-45=74) and 96 penalty minutes.
O'Sullivan, 23, most recently played for Team USA at the 2006 World Championship. He has also skated for Team USA at the 2005 World Junior Championship; at the 2004 World Junior Championship, where he scored two goals - including the game-winner - in Team USA's victory over Canada in the gold medal game; and at the 2003 World Junior Championship. In 2002, he skated for Team USA at the under-18 World Junior Championship, where he had 15 points (7-8=15) in eight games.
For the Kings this past season, O'Sullivan played in all 82 games and finished fourth on the team in points (53). He also finished fourth in goals (22), fourth in assists (31), and tied for first in short-handed goals (three). O'Sullivan also led the Kings in shots (220), and this past Saturday he was named the club's Best Defensive Player (as voted by the local media). He was originally acquired by the Kings from Minnesota on June 24, 2006, and is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. O'Sullivan recorded 39 points (18-21=39) and 12 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Monarchs during the 2006-07 season. On Monday, it was announced that Kings Associate Coach Mike Johnston will join Pat Burns and Craig MacTavish as assistant coaches on Canada's coaching staff for the 2008 IIHF World Championship, and that Kings Head Equipment Manager Darren Granger has been named Canada's Head Equipment Manager for the World Championship. Kings President, Business Operations Luc Robitaille is an Assistant General Manager with Team Canada.
