Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) Eskimo quarterback Ricky Ray and running back Jerome Messam have been named Gibson's Finest Player of the Week and Canadian of the Week, respectively.
Ray completed 17 of 29 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns against the Argos on Friday night, including a 75-yard pass to Fred Stamps which put him over 1,000 yards receiving in a season for the third time in his CFL career. Ray also added a touchdown on the ground on a nine-yard run. It's the 4th time this season Ray has thrown for over 300 yards in a game.
This is Messam's 5th Canadian of the Week honour in 2011. Jerome carried the ball 19 times for 115 yards and hauled in three passes for 43 yards in front of friends and family at Rogers Centre. The Brampton native has rushed for 964 yards this season, putting him just 36 yards shy of becoming the league's first Canadian-born 1,000-yard rusher since Sean Millington in 2000.
