Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Luck was not on the Sound Tigers side tonight as two goals were disallowed, assisting in the Hartford Wolf-Pack's victory over the Sound Tigers, 5-2. Trevor Smith scored his third goal in four games for the Sound Tigers but Lauri Korpikoski's two tallies paced the Wolf Pack to victory.

Mike Ouellette helped the Wolf Pack take the 1-0 lead 15:15 into the first period when he picked up a loose puck at the blue-line and skated in alone on Sound Tigers' starting goalie Joey MacDonald. MacDonald made the save on Ouellette's first shot but could not control the rebound. Korpikoski grabbed the puck in the slot and snapped it past MacDonald for the 1-0 lead. Jordan Owens and Ouellette had the assists on Korpikoski's 13th goal of the season. The Sound Tigers best chance of the period happened only five minutes later when Matt Keith sprung Kyle Okposo on a break-away from the neutral zone. Okposo settled the puck and rung it off the right post, leaving the score at 1-0 in favor of Hartford at the end of the opening period.

In the middle frame, Steve Regier would tie the score at one while the Sound Tigers were on the man-advantage. Wolf Pack starting goalie, Miika Wiikman would stop a shot from the outside by Jeremy Colliton, but creeping in from the right corner, Regier pushed the puck under the arm of Wiikman for his 17th goal of the season. Keith also had an assist on the tally. Three minutes later, with Mark Wotton in the penalty box for tripping, Andrew Hutchinson would score his 14th goal of the season on a one-time blast from Pierre Parenteau. Thomas Pock had the second assist. The Sound Tigers would return the favor, with their second power-play goal of the period when Smith scored his tenth goal this season. Smith tried to feed a pass in front to Tim Jackman in the slot but the puck went off a Wolf Pack defender and trickled through the legs of Wiikman. Wotton and Jamie Fraser had the helpers on the marker to knot the score at 2-2. Hartford would steal the 3-2 lead about six minutes later when Scott Ford attempted to clear the puck around the boards, but the puck struck panel and caromed off the back of MacDonald and into the net. Parenteau was credited with the goal since he was the last to touch the puck while Greg Moore and Marcel Hossa had the assists.

Corey Potter would make it 4-2 Wolf Pack 7:50 into the third period when he took a cross-ice feed from Dane Byers and wristed a shot over MacDonald's blocker. Hugh Jessiman had the second assist on Potter's third goal this season. Korpikoski, the game's first star, would ice the game with an empty net tally with 31 seconds remaining in the final frame. Korpikoski's goal came unassisted and was his 14th of the season.

MacDonald had 32 saves on 36 shots while Wiikman earned the win with 22 saves on 24 shots. Hartford out-shot the Sound Tigers by a count of 37-24. The Sound Tigers were 2-for-3 on the power-play and penalty-kill.

The Albany River Rats will travel to Arena at Harbor Yard tomorrow to skate against the Sound Tigers with the face-off scheduled for 4 p.m. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will take home a Storm bobble-head doll.
