February 23, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, Maine - For the second night in a row the Lowell Devils headed to overtime, but this time it was the Albany River Rats prevailing, 2-1, on Saturday at the Times Union Center.

A night after Stephen Gionta scored 20 seconds into the extra session to give the Devils a win over Worcester, Joe Jensen took only 56 seconds to clinch the victory for the River Rats. With the face-off down in the Lowell zone, Jamie Johnson won the draw into slot where Jensen quickly swept the puck through the five-hole of Dave Caruso.

Making his third AHL start this season, Caruso helped his team gain a point as he stopped 37 of the 39 shots he faced. He was also perfect during the third period that saw the River Rats outshoot the Devils 16-7.

For the second straight game, the Devils gathered the first goal of the match. Stephen Gionta started the scoring with 5:21 left until the first intermission when he banged home the rebound from Rosario Ruggeri's blueline slapshot. Sean Zimmerman also picked up an assist on Gionta's 14th goal of the season. Prior to Gionta's goal, Lowell killed off four Albany power plays over the first ten minutes of the contest. The Devils were a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill on the night.

As Lowell registered the only goal of the first period, it was Albany notching the only marker in the second. From the near corner of the Devils' zone, Jerome Samson fed a centering pass to the far post that was tapped in by a pinching Mark Flood at 15:19.

Lowell returns home on Sunday, February 24 to battle Hartford once again at 4:05 p.m. Help us celebrate Aubuchon Hardware's 100th birthday as one lucky fan will win an electric fireplace. Tickets start at just $10; call the Devils office at (978) 458-PUCK for more information or visit www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
