Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs extended their point streak to a season-high six games but dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to the Houston Aeros on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. The loss was Hamilton's first in its last six games, dropping the Bulldogs' record to 28-21-2-5 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 16:34 of the second period when Greg Stewart chipped home a Mathieu Biron centering pass over the right pad of Aeros netminder Barry Brust. The goal, also assisted by Kyle Chipchura, was Stewart's 10th of the campaign.
Houston drew even at 9:34 of the third frame when Cal Clutterbuck posted a shorthanded marker to make the score 1-1. The unassisted goal was Clutterbuck's ninth of the season.
With the game still tied at the end of regulation, the teams went to overtime. At 2:56 of the extra frame, Aeros winger Joel Ward swatted a rebound out of mid air past Bulldogs goaltender Jaroslav Halak to give Houston a 2-1 victory. Erick Reitz and Ryan Hamilton drew the helpers on Ward's 12th tally of the campaign.
The âDogs now have three wins and two losses on the season in games decided in overtime.
Halak made 35 saves on 37 shots for Hamilton in a losing effort, while Brust turned aside 27 of 28 shots for Houston to earn the win.
Neither team was successful with the extra man. The Bulldogs were 0-for-9 with the man advantage, while the Aeros went 0-for-7 on the power play.
