Adirondack Phantoms News Release

HERSHEY, PA - The Philadelphia Phantoms found themselves down 3-0 to the Hershey Bears after the first period Saturday night, but answered with five consecutive goals in the second and third periods to earn a 5-3 win in a crucial East Division matchup at the GIANT Center. Phantoms captain Boyd Kane recorded a four-point night against his former club with two goals and two assists, and Martin Grenier picked up the game-winner with his first goal of the season in the third period.

An ominous start gave Hershey a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Kyle Wilson posted the first goal in a 4-on-4 situation 4:31 into the game, followed by a power play tally from Jay Beagle 92 seconds later. Andrew Joudrey then scored shorthanded with 3:24 remaining in the frame, giving the Bears plenty of momentum at the break.

But the Phantoms started to climb back just past the halfway point of the second period when Chad Anderson scored his first goal as a professional. The rookie blueliner sent a wrist shot on net from the blue line that beat a screened Frederic Cassivi to put Philadelphia on the board with 9:08 to play in the second.

Kane started his evening with Philadelphia's second goal with 5:33 to play in the period, a power play goal that came off assists from Alexandre Picard and Lars Jonsson. Then he picked up another man-up tally just over three minutes later when he tipped a Ryan Potulny slapshot past Cassivi to even the contest at 3-3 heading into the second intermission.

The Phantoms found a new source of offense in Grenier 5:31 into the final period. Darroll Powe ignited the play by checking the puck away from a Hershey player along the half-wall. He fired a puck in front of the net for Grenier, whose one-timer went top shelf to Cassivi's glove side. It was his first goal of the year in just his 16th game of the season.

Jared Ross gave the Phantoms some insurance 37 seconds later when he redirected a centering feed by Kane, the captain's fourth point of the night. For Ross, it was his 16th goal of the season.

Scott Munroe shook off the first period to earn the win with 29 saves on 32 shots. Cassivi was saddled with the loss, making 27 saves on 32 Phantoms bids.

The win gave the Phantoms a split of the weekend home-and-home series with the Bears following last night's 3-2 loss to Hershey at the Wachovia Spectrum. It puts Philadelphia's lead in the East Division back out to 12 points after it was trimmed to 10 last night. A win by Hershey would have put the Bears just eight points back of the Phantoms with four games in hand.

Philadelphia's record now sits at 37-18-2-2 for 78 points. The Phantoms are now off for nearly an entire week before hosting the Binghamton Senators next Friday, February 29 against the Binghamton Senators. Tickets are available at the Wachovia Complex box office, online at ComcastTIX.com or phantomshockey.com, or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
