Two Blazers Selected in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft

Los Angeles, CA - The Kamloops Blazers are proud to announce that two members of the hockey club, Austin Madaisky and Brendan Ranford, were selected in the 2010 NHL Draft held in Los Angeles Friday and Saturday.

Madaisky, from Surrey, BC, was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 5th round, 124th overall. He was acquired from the Calgary Hitmen in January and had a terrific season scoring 7 goals and adding 20 assists for 27 points in 65 regular season games.

The 6'2" 185lb defenseman raised his game in the playoffs, leading the Blazers with 3 goals and finishing with 6 points in 4 playoff games. He also played in the 2010 Top Prospects game in Windsor, ON.

Forward Brendan Ranford was selected in the 7th round 209th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers. He was chosen with the 2nd last pick of the NHL Draft.

Ranford, who hails from Edmonton, was second on the team in scoring with 29 goals, 36 assists and 65 points in 72 games. The 5'10" 182lb left winger also played well in the playoffs scoring 2 goals and collecting 5 points in 4 games.

The 18 year old forward is the highest scoring 17 year old player for the Blazers since Scottie Upshall had 87 points in 2000-2001.

The Kamloops Blazers have now had 94 players selected in the NHL Draft since the franchise moved to Kamloops in 1982. The Blazers have had at least one player selected in every year since 1982 except in 2008.
