
Calvin Pickard Selected by Colorado Avalanche

Kent,June 26, 2010 - Seattle Thunderbirds goalie Calvin Pickard was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round, 49th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles this afternoon.
"I am really excited to be a member of the Avalanche organization," said Pickard from the draft in Los Angeles. "I am looking forward to attending my first NHL training camp in the fall."
Pickard appeared in 62 games last year in his second season with the T-Birds. He finished with a 16-34-7-5 record with three shutouts, a .914 save percentage and a 3.09 goals against average. In two seasons with the T-Birds Pickard has a 39-50-8-9 record with a .907 save percentage a 3.07 goals against average. He has six career shutouts.
"We are very happy for Calvin and look forward to watching him develop and move on to a great career as a pro," said T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell. "He brings such a complete package of both talent and character that Colorado will be very happy with this selection."
Pickard was selected on June 22 by Hockey Canada to attend Canada's National Junior Team Development Camp in St. John's, Newfoundland, in early August. Pickard is one of four goaltenders from the Canadian Hockey League to be selected for the Development Camp. The other three goalies attending the camp are: Jean-Francois Berube, Montreal Rocket (QMJHL), Olivier Roy, Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL) and Mark Visentin, Niagara Ice Dogs (OHL).
Two of these four goalies will be selected for Canada's National Junior Team that will participate in the 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York, from December 26 to January 5.
Pickard's older brother Chet, also a goalie, was selected by the Nashville Predators in the first round, 18th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft.
