
Turner Stevenson Joins T-Birds As Assistant Coach

Seattle, June 5, 2007 - The Seattle Thunderbirds today announced the hiring of former T-Bird Turner Stevenson as an assistant coach.
Stevenson, a former first round draft pick, 12th overall, of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, played 11 years in the NHL. He played six years with the Canadiens, four years with the New Jersey Devils and one year with the Philadelphia Flyers. Stevenson was a member of the Stanley Cup winning Devils team in 2003.
"We are excited about adding Turner Stevenson to our coaching staff," said T-Birds General Manager Russ Farwell. "He brings a tremendous depth of experience with him that will be a huge asset to all the players on our team. He had to work hard to become a NHL player. He played in the minors on his way up and he played for some extremely successful organizations in the NHL, which included winning the Stanley Cup. For all he will bring to our program; we are excited to have him" "I am very excited to be coming back to the T-Birds," said Stevenson. "The T-Birds started me on my way to the NHL and it's an honor to come back and be a part of the coaching staff. My family and I call Seattle home and we couldn't be happier."
Stevenson played 644 games in his 11-year NHL career. He retired from the NHL with 190 career points on 75 goals and 115 assists with 969 penalty minutes.
Stevenson played 246 games with the T-Birds over four seasons from 1988 to 1992. He had 203 career points on 100 goals and 103 assists with 886 penalty minutes. He was an integral part of the 1989-90 T- Birds team that won a team high 52 games.
Stevenson, who joins the team immediately, replaces former Assistant Coach Blake Knox who resigned for family reasons.
T-Birds Training Camp starts August 27 at Kingsgate Ice Arena in Kirkland.
