Edmonton Takes Swaby in Expansion Draft

EDMONTON, AB - Today, the Tri-City Americans lost 20-year-old defenseman Matt Swaby to the Western Hockey League's newest franchise, the Edmonton Oil Kings, as part of the League's Expansion Draft.
Swaby, listed as 6'0" 170 lbs, has played his entire WHL career with Tri-City. In 186 career games, spanning three seasons, Swaby tallied nine goals, 36 points and 268 penalty minutes. The 2006-07 season was a career-year for Swaby, who recorded career-bests for assists (18), points (20) and plus/minus (+16) in a season.
"We would like to thank Matt for all his service to our hockey club," said Bob Tory, General Manager/Governor of the Tri-City Americans. "He is a true warrior who was proud to wear our jersey. We wish him all the best in Edmonton."
The Edmonton Investors Group, owners of the Edmonton Oilers NHL franchise, was awarded a WHL franchise on June 27, 2006. The Oil Kings will become the 22nd member club in the WHL at the start of the 2007-08 season. It will also mark a return to the Alberta capital for the first time since the Edmonton Ice relocated to Cranbrook, BC to become the Kootenay Ice for the 1998-99 WHL season.
