Tulsa tops Skyforce

SIOUX FALLS, SD - Tulsa guard Will Conroy racked up 20 assists against the Skyforce Saturday night to set a new NBA D-League single-game record and help the 66ers win 119-115 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Two games in two nights with only eight players looked to catch up with Sioux Falls (10-8) as the 66ers (9-9) used a 26-8 run in the third to open up the game by as many as 23. Conroy connected on several big shots behind the arc to add 22 points to his 20 assists. Forward Mike Hall also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
"I thought we played much better defense tonight than we did last night," Tulsa 66ers head coach Joey Meyer said. "Especially in the third quarter, I thought our defense was much better."
Tulsa looked to be in complete control until the final 1:30 of the third when Sioux Falls went on an 18-2 run behind the three-point shooting of guard Frank Williams. Williams had the final nine Sioux Falls points as he hit back-to-back-to-back three pointers. The final shot was a three-quarter court buzzer beater as the Skyforce ended the quarter down 87-80.
Early on the game actually looked to be a blowout of Tulsa as Sioux Falls came out hot. The Skyforce hit 76 percent (16-of-21) of their shots from the floor in the first quarter as they led by as many as 17. Center Jared Reiner had eight early points in the paint to free up Williams on the arc, who finished with 28 points.
Tulsa battled back in the second as Sioux Falls' shooting cooled. The Skyforce hit just nine of their 19 shots (47 percent) in the quarter. The 66ers slowly trimmed the lead as they went three-of-six behind the arc in the quarter.
"We came out smoking to start the game and they couldn't find the basket and then we couldn't find the basket and they got hot," Sioux Falls head coach Mo McHone said.
Tulsa found their stride behind the play of guard Alan Anderson who contributed eight in the quarter coming off the bench. Tulsa took the lead with three minutes left and never looked back as they closed the half up 59-57.
"His bench came in and played really well," McHone said. "The kid Alan Anderson was just with the Bobcats. I thought he came in and really picked them up."
Sioux Falls hosts Arkansas and Tulsa travels to Bismarck to face Dakota. Both tips are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
