Colorado 14ers News Release
DENVER, CO - The Colorado 14ers won their fourth straight home game Saturday night by beating the Bakersfield Jam 129-118 at the Broomfield Event Center. Elton Brown and Von Wafer combined for 57 points to help Colorado improve to 9-5 on the season. Bakersfield falls to 5-10 on the year with the loss.
Pooh Jeter joined Brown and Wafer to create a 3-headed monster that Bakersfield couldn't stop. Jeter posted his second straight double-double with 15 points and 12 assists on the night. Brown led all scorers with 29 points, and pulled down 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season, and third in a row. Wafer went 7-9 from 3-point range on his way to 28 points and 7 assists on the night.
"His teammates are getting him involved and learning where Von is effective. I think Antoine Hood and Pooh Jeter are doing a nice job with that," said 14ers head coach Joe Wolf. "The progress so far is good, but the main thing is that we come back tomorrow night and play a more experienced team at a high level again."
Roderick Riley came up big off the bench to lead the Jam with 23 points and 13 rebounds in 29 minutes. The Jam took an 84-83 lead on a Riley free throw with 5:31 left in the third quarter, but were outscored 46-34 over the final 17:31 of the contest. Bakersfield leading scorer Kevinn Pinkney finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Louis Amundson missed his fourth straight game for Colorado with a bruised hip. Rick Rickert replaced Amundson in the starting line-up and posted 24 points and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. Bakari Hendrix also chipped in 11 points in 21 minutes off the bench for the 14ers.
The game was delayed 40 minutes due to Bakersfield's inability to get to the arena. A multi-car accident closed down Highway 36 in Broomfield, forcing the Jam's team bus to wait in traffic for over an hour on their trip from the hotel.
The 14ers and the Jam play at the Broomfield Event Center again tomorrow night, Sunday Jan. 7 at 6:05 p.m. (MST).
