
Hawks Sign Albuquerque Forward Thompson

GREENVILLE, S.C., Jan. 6, 2007 - The Atlanta Hawks signed Albuquerque Thunderbirds forward Dijon Thompson to a 10-day contract today, according to Hawks' Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight. Thompson is the fourth GATORADE Call-Up this season and the third in the last two days.
The Seattle Sonics and Sacramento Kings signed Sioux Falls forward Andre Brown and Dakota forward Justin Williams, respectively, to 10-day contracts on Friday (Jan. 5). Fort Worth guard Kelenna Azubuike was signed by Golden State on Jan. 2.
The 6-foot-7 Thompson has played in 12 games (12 starts) this season with the Thunderbirds, averaging 19.9 ppg (3rd in the D-League), 9.4 rpg (3rd), 4.2 apg and 1.3 spg in 39.8 mpg.
The UCLA product appeared in 10 games with the Phoenix Suns during the 2005-06 campaign, and averaged 2.8 ppg, 1.1 rpg and 0.3 spg. He also played in four contests last season with Albuquerque, tallying 13.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 1.0 spg.
Thompson was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft (54th overall), before being traded, along with Kurt Thomas, to Phoenix in exchange for Quentin Richardson, Nate Robinson and cash considerations. He was originally an early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft before withdrawing his name from consideration.
He capped off his four-year career with the Bruins earning All-Pac-10 honors as a senior, and finished as the school's 19th all-time leading scorer.
