Trio of P-Nats Homers Down Hillcats in Finale on Sunday

Lynchburg, Va. - The Lynchburg Hillcats mustered just five hits on Sunday, losing to the Potomac Nationals, 7-1, at City Stadium.

The Hillcats (27-31) dropped two of three games against Potomac (31-27) and fall to four games behind the P-Nats in the Northern Division with a week to play in the first half.

Potomac broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fourth inning. With runners at the corners and one out, Justin Garza (Loss, 2-4) struck out Ian Sagdal on a hit-and-run. Hillcats catcher Li-Jen Chu went to throw out Jake Noll trying to steal second base, but his throw sailed into center field, allowing Alec Keller to score from third to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.

The P-Nats added to their lead in the fifth inning, when Jack Sundberg blasted a solo home run.

In the sixth inning, the game became a 4-0 contest when both Carter Kieboom and Jake Noll hit solo shots off of Lynchburg reliever Anderson Polanco.

The Hillcats scored their only run of the game in the sixth inning when Trenton Brooks plated a run with an RBI single.

Noll made it a 5-1 game when he knocked an RBI single in the seventh inning and the P-Nats scored their final two runs on an error in the ninth.

Garza allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings, and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts. Polanco gave up three runs and walked three in 1.2 innings. Ben Krauth worked 1.1 scoreless frames while Luis Jimenez was tagged for two unearned runs in the ninth.

Tyler Mapes (Win, 5-1) gave up just one run on five hits over seven innings. Hayden Howard tossed two scoreless innings to nail down the win for Potomac.

Lynchburg will now hit the road for a five-game series against the Frederick Keys beginning on Monday, including double-headers on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Left-hander Sam Hentges (3-5, 3.95) will start for the Hillcats against Keys southpaw Alex Wells (3-4, 3.99). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Nymeo Field.
