Trimm's Five-Point Outing Highlights Thunder Victory over Cutthroats

Wichita, KS - A day after celebrating his 30th birthday, Neil Trimm went out in style scoring five points to pace Wichita (28-15-6) past Denver (25-20-6) by the final score of 6-3. Five others recorded two points and Torrie Jung won for the 15th time this season. Wichita leads the season-series 4-2-0 with one more meeting looming at the beginning of March.
Wichita had lost the night before against Denver and was looking to regain form. Trimm scored his first of two goals on the night four minutes in with a beautiful wrist shot over the left shoulder of Michael DiLorenzo. Denver tied it at one halfway through the opening frame with a goal from Brad Smyth. 52 seconds later, the Cutthroats took their first lead of the game during a delayed penalty. Mikael Bedard scored his third in two games off a rebound to make it 2-1. Wichita responded two minutes later when RG Flath rushed in down the slot, put a backhand on the ice and past DiLorenzo to tie the game at two.
The two teams traded goals in the second period. Luke Fulghum gave Denver its second lead with a wrist shot from the slot at 11:54. Fulghum then clipped Trimm in the face with just over a minute in the period and the Thunder took advantage. Andrew Martens fed it over to Chad Painchaud and he ripped a shot through a screen to tie the game at three on the power play.
The Thunder scored the final four of the game and three in the third period to earn its 28th win of the season. Matt Robinson got the game-winner at 12:27 as he danced around AJ Gale at the red line, came down the left wing and from a sharp angle beat DiLorenzo through the five-hole. Denver was awarded a late power play, but was unable to do anything with it. Immediately after the power play expired, Wichita made it 5-3 when Martens came out of the box, fed it to Trimm who handed it off to Lowe for the goal. Trimm book-ended the game with an empty-netter with six seconds remaining and the Thunder skated away with a 6-3 win.
Trimm takes over the team-lead with 23 goals and point-lead with 52. He also tied a season-high with his five-point outing. Flath extended his goal-scoring streak to four while Chad Painchaud had two points and extended his point-streak to four as well. Kevin Young, Lowe, Martens and Robinson all had two points. Jung, who has started 10 of the last 11 games, stopped 17 of 20 shots and improved to 7-1-3 over that stretch.
Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play while Denver was 0-for-2.
