Mallards Edge Sundogs in 3-2 Loss

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs were edged out by the Quad City Mallards despite their efforts in a 3-2 loss at the I-Wireless Center.

At the end of an intense opening frame the Sundogs and Mallards where tied with two goals each. All four goals came less than 10 minutes into the first period. The Mallards collected their two goals within 23 seconds of each other, Patrik Levesque and Shayne Toporowski each tallied a goal. 1:12 later and Arizona answered back when Ron Meyers scored, with assists being credited to Johan Ryd and Jake Hauswirth . Hauswirth would score his second point of the evening when he let off a wrister on the rebound and scored, tying the game. The Mallards', Mike Stinziani received a game misconduct after he kneed Derek LeBlanc sending him to the ice. Chad Nehring immediately dropped Stinziani to the ground after the collision on LeBlanc. LeBlanc was slow to stand after the hit and was escorted off the ice by athletic trainer Vince Fedorowich, but would return in the second period.

With just under three minutes remaining in the second period Mickey Lang scored the game winning goal, lifting the puck into the top left shelf and scoring on Adam Russo. His goal would come on the power play after Hauswirth was issued a hooking penalty. Levesque and Gord Burnett were each issued five minute fighting major.

Russo took the loss for Sundogs making 26 saves. Arizona outshot Quad City34-29. Arizona was 0-2 on the power play and Quad City was 1-3 on the power play. The Sundogs return home for their next home game on Saturday, February 23 at 8:05PM at Tim's Toyota Center.
