MOLINE, IL - Mickey Lang scored what proved to be the game winning goal on the power play late in the second period and Neil Conway made 32 saves as the host Quad City Mallards defeated the Arizona Sundogs 3-2 Saturday night.

Lang broke a 2-2 tie with a one timer from the slot at 17:06 of the second. Conway- who stopped 18 shots in the second and third periods to keep the Sundogs off the scoreboard over the final 40 minutes- and the Mallards would successfully protect that one-goal lead the rest of the way.

The Mallards had first moved in front by scoring twice in 23 seconds early in the first period. Patrick Levesque opened the scoring from the side of the net at 3:05 of the first; at 3:28 Shayne Toporowski buried the second Mallard goal from point blank range.

The two-goal Quad City cushion lasted only one minute and 12 seconds before Arizona's Ron Meyers rifled in a loose puck from the goalmouth to cut the gap to 2-1 at 4:40 of the first. The first Mallard lead disappeared altogether when Jake Hauswirth swept home a rebound at 9:04 of the opening frame, but the Mallards would make it stick the second time they moved in front.

The Mallards return to action next Tuesday night at 7:05 on home ice against the Rapid City Rush. Tuesday evening is 2-for-Tuesday- $2 beers and soft drinks will be available at i wireless Center concession stands throughout the game.
