
Tribe outfielder McLouth recalled by Pittsburgh

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis outfielder Nate McLouth has been recalled by Pittsburgh to fill the roster spot vacated by Pirates left-hander Oliver Perez, who was placed on the disabled list after breaking the big toe on his left foot.
As of 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Indianapolis had not made a move to fill McLouth's spot on the active roster. A transaction is expected prior to Wednesday night's game in Ottawa.
McLouth, who was recently named to the 2005 International League All-Star Team, departs after hitting .306 with five home runs and 32 RBI in 74 games for the Tribe. The 23-year-old also led Indianapolis in runs scored (45) and stolen bases (23). McLouth was ranked -- by Baseball America -- as Pittsburgh's No. 10 prospect prior to the start of the 2005 campaign.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitter hit safely in nine straight contests from April 13-22 and was riding a seven-game hitting streak at the time of his first big-league promotion.
McLouth spent all of 2004 with Double-A Altoona (Pa.), where he hit .322 with eight roundtrippers and 73 RBI.
He was taken by the Pirates in the 25th round of the 2000 June draft after earning a share of Mr. Baseball honors in the state of Michigan. He hit .523 and stole a state record 180 bases (in 181 attempts) during his high school career.
