Indianapolis Indians News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. -- Third baseman Jason Alfaro led off the 11th inning by blasting a solo home run to right center as Indianapolis snapped Charlotte's 12-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory Tuesday evening at Knights Stadium.

Alfaro, who was playing in his first game since being activated from the disabled list, finished the night 4-for-5 with two long balls. It was his first four-hit game since July 29, 2004, and his first two-homer game since July 30, 2004 - both performances coming with Triple-A New Orleans.

Indianapolis improves 17-14 overall and 11-6 on the road with the win. Charlotte falls to 24-7 on the season with its first setback since April 24.

Indians RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO) tossed a scoreless 10th to pick up his first win of the season. RHP Scott Strickland (1.0 IP, 2 SO) extended his scoreless innings steak to 20.2 to notch his first save of the campaign.

Indianapolis added a pair of insurance runs in the 11th after Alfaro's second roundtripper of the night. CF Ray Sadler came plateward when RF Raul Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk, while C Carlos Maldonado crossed the dish when 1B Chris Richard was hit by a pitch. Gonzalez has now reached base safely in 15 consecutive games.

The Tribe knotted the game at two in the seventh. Alfaro and SS J.J. Furmaniak opened the frame by roping back-to-back singles. Then, after a fielder's choice, Maldonado brought home Furmaniak with a base knock to left.

Charlotte plated two runs in the second inning to grab an early advantage. 3B Josh Fields doubled to lead off the frame. Then, following DH Ernie Young's base on balls, 2B Pedro Lopez tagged a double to bring home Fields. Moments later, Young scored on RF Ruben Rivera's RBI groundout.

The starters -- Indians RHP Brandon Duckworth (6.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 SO) and Knights RHP Sean Tracey (6.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) -- did not factor in the decision.

The 11-inning affair comes just 24 hours after Charlotte pulled off a 3-2 win in 11 frames on Monday night.

The two teams return to Knights Stadium Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m., for game three of the four-game set. RHP Nerio Rodriguez is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis, while Charlotte's starter has yet to be announced.

The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m.
