Columbus, OH- The Richmond Braves beat the Columbus Clippers 8-1 at Cooper Stadium Tuesday. The Braves banged out 16 hits to win back to back road games for the first time this season.
The Braves scored a run in the second inning on an RBI double by Jamal Strong. The Clippers tied the game in the home half on a Mitch Jones home run. Tony Pena knocked in two runs with a triple in the third to put the Braves ahead to stay. In the sixth Michael Ryan drew a bases loaded walk to give the Braves a 4-1 lead. Brayan Pena chased two runs home with a single. Bill McCarthy drove in a run with a single. Strong capped the rally by getting hit by a pitch with the bags full to give Richmond an 8-1 lead.
Tony Pena and Scott Thorman led the Braves with three hits each. Seven of the Braves nine starters had at least two hits. Travis Smith worked eight innings to earn his third win. Jeff Karstens took the loss.
The Braves continue their series Columbus Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Ricardo Rodriguez will pitch for the Braves against Matt DeSalvo. The Braves return home Friday, May 12 vs. Toledo at 7 PM.
