Tri-City Travels for Sunday Showdown at Omaha

Kearney, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (2-1-0-1, 5 pts.) and the Omaha Lancers (1-4-0-0, 2 pts.) meet for the first time this season in a Sunday evening showdown at Ralston Arena. Puck drop is slated for 5:05 p.m.

The Storm went 1-3-0-0 on its recent four-game homestand and look to keep up its road success; Tri-City has points in its first two away contests. Tri-City is tied for sixth in the Western Conference and Omaha is last among eight in the conference.

Last game, the Storm kept up its hot power play, going 2-for-3 for the second straight contest. Green Bay edged Tri-City, 5-3.

Remember to join the Storm this Thursday! Tri-City kicks off its Fight Cancer Weekend, featuring a pair of home games. On Thursday, October 13 from 5-9 p.m., Tri-City invites all fans to "Paint the Ice" and remember those affected by cancer. The Storm will wear specialty jerseys and play on the painted ice against Cedar Rapids on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m. for Color Out Cancer Night presented by Midway Auto Dealerships.

To continue the weekend theme, the Storm and Kearney Concrete team up for Concrete Cares Night on Saturday, October 15 at 7:05 p.m. Tri-City will play Lincoln on the painted ice and the Storm will wear new and different specialty jerseys.

Recent series success The Storm won its series season last year against the Lancers, 5-2-1-0, taking five of the first six games before dropping the last two. At Ralston Arena, the Storm was 3-1-0-0, scoring 3.8 goals a game and allowing 2.3.

Since 2014-15, the Tri-City is 9-4-2-1 against Omaha. Lancers Head Coach Brian Kaufman started his career by winning eight of the first nine games against the Storm in 2013-14.

Prior to 2012-13, the Storm had not won a season series against the Lancers since 2008-09; Tri-City won just 11 games the entire season and four were against Omaha.

In the Tier-I history of the league (since 2002-03), the Storm is 47-45-6-7 against the Lancers, including a 21-27-2-5 record at Omaha.

Scouting the Lancers Omaha dropped its first four games and allowed a league-worst 5.3 goals per game before limiting Sioux Falls in a 6-3 win on Friday. The Lancers have allowed at least seven goals in two of the first five games, giving up a touchdown to Fargo on opening night and eight goals to Des Moines on October 1.

In contrast, the Lancers have scored 14 goals in its first five games. Returning forward Austin Alger, second-year player Brannon McManus, and newcomer Pierce Crawford are tied for the squad lead with four points. McManus is best on the team with three goals.

Peter Thome has played in three games for Omaha in net. The 19-year-old commit to North Dakota was picked in the sixth round, 155th overall, by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Jacob Acton is out due to injury and netminder Austin Park has been called from Minot (NAHL) to back up Thome.

Last Time Out

Monte Graham scored two power-play goals, but the Green Bay Gamblers struck for five straight tallies and defeated the Tri-City Storm, 5-3, Friday at the Viaero Center.

Graham, an 18-year-old returning player, matched his goal total (3) from last season and is tied for the team lead with five points. Alex Limoges also tallied for Tri-City (2-3-0-1, 5 pts.) midway through the third to end Green Bay's five-goal run. Philip Alftberg and Charlie Kelleher each finished with two assists. Kelleher has points in four straight games (2g, 3a).

The Storm has scored four power-play goals (4-for-6) in the last two games.

Goaltender David Tomeo replaced Dayton Rasmussen midway through the third period. Rasmussen made 21 saves on 26 shots and Tomeo made two stops in relief.
