Stars Blanked, 2-0, in Waterloo

Waterloo, IA - Despite solid goaltending and a perfect penalty kill, the Stars lost 2-0 to the Waterloo Black Hawks in Young Arena on Saturday night.

The loss marked the Stars' second against the Black Hawks this season and moved their record to 3-2-0 .

The Black Hawks scored two shorthanded goals in Thursday's game at the Ice Box and they picked up where they left off in the first period on Saturday. At 6:53 of the first, Kevin Charyszyn carried the puck through the neutral zone before firing a long wrist shot past Stars goalie Josef Korenar.

Waterloo carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Penalties defined the second period as a scrum at 13:24 resulted in 19 penalties minutes and put the Stars on the power play for their best chance of the game. Near the end of a 3:00 man advantage, Dylan Woolf shot a wrist shot through traffic that generated multiple chances before it was swept out of the zone to a standing ovation from Young Arena.

Ace Cowans put the game out of reach at 17:39 of the third when he shoveled a backhand past Korenar to make it 2-0.

Korenar finished with 19 saves. Lincoln went 0/4 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

The Stars return to the Ice Box on Friday, Oct. 14 against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m.
