Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Robbie Beydoun delivered his second shutout in three appearances, and the Waterloo Black Hawk skated past the Lincoln Stars, 2-0, Saturday during the home opener at Young Arena.
Fans got behind the Waterloo goalie during the closing minutes of the second period. With Lincoln on a power play, Beydoun made a series of stops near the top of the crease to preserve a 1-0 Hawks lead.
The second period proved to be Beydoun's busiest, with nine saves.
At 7:29 of the first period, Kevin Charyszyn had won a shorthanded faceoff in his own zone, then got the puck back; skating up the rink, he was able to loose a wrist shot which flew over the left shoulder of Stars' goalie Josef Korenar and into the net. Dating back to Thursday, it was the third consecutive Waterloo goal recorded in a shorthanded situation.
The score remained static until just 2:21 remained in the game.
Garrett Wait had two shots blocked but stuck with the play and set up a Garrett Klee shot from the right circle. Korenar made the save, but Ace Cowans flipped in the rebound for a valuable insurance goal.
The Hawks are on the road for their next three games beginning Friday in Sioux City against the Musketeers.
