Boise Hawks News Release
The Boise Hawks (7-8) got out to a 4-0 lead after three innings but the Tri-City Dust Devils (8-7) answered with seven unanswered runs to get a 7-4 win in the opener of a five game series between the two squads.
The Hawks scored in the first inning for the third straight night. After Tri-City starter Cole Bellinger got two strikeouts to begin the game, the Hawks got a double from Luke Morgan.
Danny Edgeworth came up after Morgan and hit a single to right making it 1-0 Hawks. After two wild pitches allowed Danny Edgeworth to get to third base, Luis Castro drew a walk putting runners on the corners for the Hawks.
Willie Maciver came up and got his first professional RBI with a single to make it 2-0 Hawks.
Boise came back in the third and got Matt Hearn and Cade Harris on base to start the inning. Then, with two outs, Luis Castro smashed a double to centerfield scoring both runners and giving Boise a 4-0 lead.
After Boise starter Frederis Parra retired all nine batters he faced through the first three frames, Tri-City got a big inning. Dwayna Williams-Sutton, with the bases loaded and nobody out, got a single to left getting the first run in for the Dust Devils. An RBI groundout for Luis Asuncion then made it a 4-2 game. Tre Carter followed it up with a base hit to make it just a 4-3 Boise lead.
Kevin Alarcon would double with runners on first and third for Tri-City and that would tie the game in the 4th.
Parra worked through the fifth nicely, but in the sixth, Tri-City got back-to-back triples to start the inning from Tre Carter and Kevin Alarcon to make it 5-4 Dust Devils. Jose Lezama came up and hit a high and deep fly ball into the right centerfield gap that hit off the glove of Cade Harris for a double and it gave the Dust Devils a 6-4 advantage.
With Lezama on second, ReInaldo Llarraza singled to score the third run of the inning for Tri-City making it a 7-4 lead for the San Diego Padres affiliate after six innings.
Gabe Mosser, who picked up the win for Tri-City, went 2.2 innings of shutout baseball after the starter Bellinger came out of the game to get the win as Tri-City hung on in the final three innings. Carter Capps came on for the 9th to get the save for Tri-City.
Frederis Parra goes 5.1 innings pitched, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs while picking up the loss.
The two teams will meet for the second game of the series tomorrow at 8:15 MT.
