Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - The Tri-City ValleyCats returned to Wild Things Park in Washington, PA for another three-game set on Tuesday. The first game of the quick road trip started at 7:05 PM, with the 'Cats sending RHP Joey Gonzalez to the mound.

After a Jesus Lujano home run on the second pitch of the game, his second of the season, the 'Cats were out to an early lead, adding a pair of unearned runs in the 4th to take a three-run lead. Joey Gonzalez, who up until the 4th inning had not allowed a run, took the mound for the bottom of the fourth and worked himself into a bases loaded, no outs jam as the skies opened up. The game would enter a 48-minute rain delay before resuming around 9 PM EST.

Joey Gonzalez returned to the mound after the delay, and delivered seven straight strikes, registering two strikeouts, before allowing a 2-RBI double off the bat of Ian Walters. Gonzalez would respond with a strikeout of Alex Alvarez, avoiding any further damage. Gonzalez would work into the sixth inning, leaving the game with a final stat line of 5.1 IP, 92 P, 3 H, 2 ER, 8 K, including one looking punchout.

Following Gonzalez's exit, the Tri-City bats would once again heat up and provide additional run support, tallying 2 runs in the 7th, and 3 in the 8th.

The Tri-City bullpen would allow just 1 hit in 3.2 IP. The combined efforts of LHP Hunter Swift, RHP Adam Hofacket, RHP Brac Warren, and RHP Jake Dexter would hold the Wild Things scoreless following Gonzalez's exit, securing the win and sending their record to 13-8 on the season.
