June 7, 2022 - Frontier League (FL)
New York Boulders News Release
Giovanni Garbella and David Vinsky each knocked in three runs to back the shutout pitching of Dan Wirchansky as the visiting New York Boulders blanked the Sussex County Miners, 12-0, in a six-inning, rain-shortened game on Tuesday night at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, NJ.
The victory was the fourth in a row for the Boulders, who moved back to the .500 mark on the season at 11-11.
Wirchansky pitched all six innings, allowing just four hits. He walked two and struck out five as he raised his season mark to 1-1.
The Boulders used a pair of big innings - a four-run second and a seven-run fifth - to seize control of the game.
The second inning began with a Chris Kwitzer solo home run, his fifth of the season. Steven Figueroa, Garbella and Vinsky tacked on RBI singles in the frame as the Boulders raced out to a 4-0 lead.
New York then blew the game open with a seven-run fifth inning that saw Garbella and Vinsky each have two-run singles, while Figueroa had a run-scoring double. Gabriel Garcia wrapped up the inning's scoring with a two-run home run, his second long ball of the year. Six of the runs were unearned after an error by Miners' second baseman Nilo Rijo on a Max Smith grounder leading off the frame.
Garbella added an RBI groundout in the sixth.
The rains came in the top of the seventh.
Vin Mazzaro was tagged with the loss for the Miners, lasting 4 2/3 innings and surrendering 11 hits and 11 runs - only three earned, while walking three and striking out five. He dropped to 1-1 on the year.
